About "SENSE"

Hong Kong has a well-developed special education (SE) system.  From the perspective of education profession and with care and trust, special schools have always been diligently helping students with more severe or multiple disabilities overcome limitations and difficulties, attain the learning level commensurate with their abilities, and realise their potential.  The Whole School Approach to integrated education (IE) has also been in place for a long time.  With the belief that “it all begins with our hearts”, the Education Bureau has been engaging ordinary schools in the collective effort to support students with special educational needs (SEN) premised on the synergy of culture, policies and practices.  An inclusive culture has already taken root in local schools.  We will continue to explore more evidence-based support strategies, enhance teacher training in SE, and promote home-school co-operation and cross-sector collaboration, so as to enable teachers to more appropriately cater for students with SEN and foster their learning and development.

To provide schools, parents and the public with information on SE and IE, we launched in September 2021 a new website named “SENSE”, signifying the professional dedication of the education sector to supporting students with SEN and enhancing the quality of SE.  Designed as a heart woven from coloured ribbons, the logo of “SENSE” resembles two people holding hands and symbolises a sense of care and inclusiveness.  Taking forward the belief that “it all begins with our hearts”, the website marks a new milestone in the development of IE and SE – a target we aspire to achieve according to our mission and vision.
