PLK Wong Wing Shu Primary School - Learning and Teaching: Strategies for Enhancing the Learning Effectiveness of Students with SEN

The Whole School Approach (WSA) is an indispensable key to the successful implementation of integrated education (IE) for students with special educational needs (SEN) to obtain appropriate support. School management plays an important role in the facilitation of related work. In this interview, the School Head of Po Leung Kuk Wong Wing Shu Primary School shared how to implement the WSA effectively from the perspective of school management and cater for the individual differences of students in the aspect of learning and teaching.

In order to implement IE through the WSA, it is vital to establish a “common belief” at all levels of the school. Teachers are specialised farmers who have to understand the characteristics of various plants and adopt appropriate cultivation methods so that plants can thrive. Furthermore, teachers shall accept and even celebrate the individual differences among students including their learning styles, potential, characteristics and personalities. A common belief among teachers and a good grasp of students’ needs can definitely facilitate the implementation of IE through the WSA.
