Background

Established by Caritas Hong Kong, Caritas Lok Kan School officially opened on 1 May 1981. Driven by a commitment to holistic education, the school supports children with special educational needs in unlocking their full potential and leading fulfilling lives.

 

Lok Kan’s History

Founded at Yau Ma Tei (1981–1988)

• Founded at Caritas Centre, Yau Ma Tei, to provide educational services for children with severe intellectual disability in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island
• Implemented the "Home-based Teaching and Training" service
• Established "Outreach Tutoring Classes" in 1984

 

Moved to Wan Chai (1988–2007)

• Moved to the former campus of a school for visually impaired students, becoming the first special school for children with severe intellectual disability in Hong Kong Island
• Launched a weekend residential service in the same year to provide vital respite support for parents and caregivers

 

New Milestone at Tin Shui Wai (2007–present)

• Moved to current campus at Tin Shui Wai in 2007, expanding services to the Northwest New Territories
• Campus design received the "Special Architectural Award for Accessibility" at the HKIA Annual Awards 2008
• Provided comprehensive seven-day residential service in 2010 to further support the accommodation needs of students
• Expanded services to students with moderate intellectual disabilities in 2021
