Background

The Salvation Army Shek Wu School, a special school located in Sheung Shui, aims to provide holistic education from Primary One to Secondary Six for students with mild intellectual disabilities.  With a series of school improvement and expansion works, they strive to offer a well-equipped learning environment. They offer students with a holistic education for the development of the whole person based on Christian values and love, helping them to develop essential qualities of good character and unveil their gifts and potentials. They nurture students to develop self-discipline, self-learning and skills necessary for future independence and success. They incorporate Invitational Education, Healthy Living, Environmental Protection, Affection and Social Skills elements into education process. They consistently collaborate with Universities and Institutions to integrate academic studies and evidence-based practices into quality educational service. They involve parents as close partners in the growth of students. With close relationship with community, they encourage students and their families to lead well-integrated lives in the society.

The Salvation Army provides holistic education based on the Love from God. They consistently collaborate with Universities and Institutions to incorporate academic studies and evidence-based practices into quality educational service. With the objectives of the Curriculum “Building confidence, willing to communicate, unveiling potentials, integrating in community”, they adopt multi-tiered curriculum design, appropriate grouping strategies, multi-professional collaboration and self-learning promotion to accommodate learning diversity.

They commit to implement preventive, developmental and remedial classroom management and student leaders fostering programs, to improve the social performance of the students and their senses of belonging to the school. School employs “Discipline and Guidance as One Service” and “Whole-school Approach” to launch a “Love in Discipline” school culture, to support students with behavioral, emotional and health-related concerns. For years, they introduce Invitational Education, Green School, Healthy Living and 5S Method into school key development, to enable stakeholders to live in a caring, respectful, healthy and safe environment.

The school was awarded six Invitational Education Awards, eight Hong Kong Green School Awards, and was recognized as an EatSmart School for nine consecutive years. Recently, they were honored to receive Outstanding Caring School Award, Caring School Merit Award, Hi-Five Student Engagement Award Scheme Outstanding Performance Award and Sustained Excellence Award. Through perseverance and determination, the school develop with their best endeavors.
