Early Intervention
Aim
Early intervention is the key strategy in catering for children with SEN. The EDB has set up a mechanism and related practice to help schools grasp an early understanding of the situations of the students with SEN and arrange appropriate support for them.
Follow-up actions further to professional assessment
- Primary School Stage (Early identification in primary schools)
- Pre-primary to primary schooling
- For the support of students admitted to Primary 1, please refer to the Resources of Early Identification and Intervention Programme for P.1 Students with Learning Difficulties
- Secondary School Stage (Admission to Secondary One (S.1) )
- For S.1 students newly admitted to secondary schools, teachers can make use of various opportunities to observe their strengths and weaknesses in learning. Teachers can also make reference to their previous academic records and other assessment results, including the specialist assessment reports transferred from the primary schools (parental consent required), and their results in the Pre-S.1 Hong Kong Attainment Test, to find out if they may have any learning difficulties.
Arrangements for schools when transferring information of students with SEN at different stages
Pre-primary to primary schooling --> Primary to secondary schooling --> Secondary to post-secondary education
