St Joseph's Anglo-Chinese School - Learning outside the classroom: Supporting students with SEN through Life-wide Learning Activities
The school has been providing different support services in light of the special educational needs (SEN) of students. In this interview, Principal POON Wing-keung, Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Special Educational Needs Support Teacher (SENST) from St. Joseph’s Anglo-Chinese School shared how the school had been supporting students with SEN through a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
With students’ interests in mind, the school provides support services for students with SEN through ingenious extra-curricular activities, which allow them to bring their potentials into full play. The school has also set up “Bio-Eco” for students where diverse animals are kept. Through taking care of the living organisms in “Bio-Eco”, students can nurture important values such as respect for life, sense of responsibility and care. The Student Support Team conducts “functional behaviour analysis” through observing the interactions among students with SEN and their peers in “Bio-Eco”, which is effective in enhancing their generic skills.
