Background
Hong Chi Morninghope School, Tuen Mun is a special school providing Primary 1 to Secondary 6 education to students with mild intellectual disability. The school provides remedial teaching to students with autism spectrum disorders, and provides speech therapy service, occupational therapy service, non-Chinese speaking student support service, nursing service, social worker counselling service and educational psychologist service to students. The school provides students with a motivated, creative and joyful learning environment. Its curriculum emphasises the “moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic” development with an aim to develop students’ potential to the full, equip them with self-care and independent living skills, enable them to integrate into society and live out a prosperous and meaningful life. The school devises the “Career Planning” Courses which provide vocational and pre-employment training to students of Secondary 1 or above. This will get them well-prepared for the integration into the community or for the transition to further study or employment. The school strives for continuous professional development for teaching staff in pursuit of quality education; the school’s Parent-Teacher Association allows parents to have a better understanding of school affairs. While supporting parents in need and reinforcing the mutual help amongst parents, the spirit of cooperation between parents and the school is promoted. The school’s spatial green campus and rich resources help optimising the effectiveness of learning and teaching. In addition, the school strives to enhance the awareness, understanding and acceptance of the public towards people with intellectual disability and encourage social inclusion.

The school values students’ all-round development and is dedicated to develop and optimize life planning education, aiming to support students’ need along their school stages. The school-based life planning tools contains elements of Academic, Sports and Arts, Morality, Social & Life Skills and Career. The content includes self-care, moral and civic education, growth education, career planning and values education. The school is committed in arranging various learning activities to coordinate with school-base career planning education. Junior and senior primary students’ learning motivation is enhanced and their self-care ability is strengthened through school assignment, school environment, award programme and camps. For junior and senior secondary students, the school strategically arranges them to discover and formulate their directions of path after graduation, through career planning classes, seminars, internship programmes and graduation support groups. Through various job-training programmes offered by school-partnered corporations, students are well-prepared upon graduation.
