St Bonaventure Catholic Primary School - Shifting Roles: From SENCO to Principal: Reflection on Supporting Students with SEN

The School Head is the key leader of a school, who plays a vital role in the promotion of the Whole School Approach to integrated education (IE).  Mr LEE Kwok-chiu, the School Head of St. Bonaventure Catholic Primary School, was promoted from Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to the School Head.  In this interview, Mr. LEE shared his experience in the effective implementation of IE and reflection on the change of roles.

The School Head must recognise the leadership role of SENCO and wholly support the SENCO in leading the Student Support Team to plan and execute the work related to IE.  The school should balance the views of different stakeholders and facilitate cooperation between each other based on the needs of students.  The school attaches great importance to building an inclusive culture.  The school has implemented innovative curriculum and designed different tasks for students to learn through different experiences.  Furthermore, the school also actively sought external resources and joined hands with other schools in the district to train students for magic performance during the pandemic to cater for students’ emotional needs, which is highly commended.
