'Early Identification and Intervention Programme for P.1 Students with Learning Difficulties' Teaching Materials and References

 

Schools can use the following teaching materials and references to provide appropriate learning support to primary one students identified with learning difficulties and to increase their learning ability and interest.

 

Chinese Learning Materials

Hong Kong Chinese Language Tiered Intervention Model for Lower Primary Students : Curriculum Package  (Chinese version only)

This resource pack contains reading and writing resources for lower primary students, including training on writing and speaking skills, orthographic skills, word recognition strategies, morphological skills, grammar knowledge, reading comprehension, reading fluency and simple writing.  It is suitable for tiered support including regular classroom teaching (Tier-1), small group teaching (Tier-2) and intensive individualised support (Tier-3). 

Resource Package on Language Enhancement Strategies (Chinese version only)

The resource package contains teaching strategies, lesson plan samples, teaching resources and interactive exercises.  It aims to introduce teaching strategies in vocabulary, syntax, discourse and pragmatics so that teachers and parents could apply those strategies to improve the language and learning abilities of students.

Teaching of Chinese Word Recognition (Version 1) & (Version 2) (Chinese version only)

These two resource packages cover skills on learning Chinese characters such as stroke, stroke order, orthographic structure, word recognition skills (look-say & trace-cover-write-check), for enhancing students’ reading and writing abilities.  Teaching of Chinese Word Recognition (Version 1) consists of six 30-minute lessons, while Teaching of Chinese Word Recognition (Version 2) includes fifteen 60-minute lessons.

Teaching of Chinese Sentence Making (Version 1) & (Version 2) (Chinese version only)

These two resource packages cover teaching materials in helping junior primary students in writing basic Chinese sentences.  Teaching of Chinese Sentence Making (Version 1) consists of six 30-minute lessons, while Teaching of Chinese Sentence Making (Version 2) includes eleven 60-minute lessons.

Daily Teaching & Assessment for Primary-Aged Children (Data-Pac) (Chinese version only)

This video provides information for parents on how to enhance their children’s ability in reading and writing words through brief daily practice .

English Learning Materials

Alphabet Stars English Group

This resource package contains teaching resources for providing Tier-2 support to students.  It is designed to support students with difficulties in learning English, aiming to enhance their ability to recognize and write the 26 lower case letters through the use of visualization techniques, multi-sensory approaches and games.  It aims to improve their letter retrieval speed and writing accuracy.

Spelling Stars English Group

This resource package contains teaching resources for providing Tier-2 support to students.  It is designed to support lower primary students with difficulties in learning English, aiming to help them and their parents to acquire the five evidence-based learning strategies to enhance children’s skills and interest in word recognition, phonics, and spelling through the use of interactive games.

Mathematics Learning Materials

Remedial Teaching Resources on Place Value (Chinese version only)

This resource package aims to strengthen learning and teaching support for primary two students with relatively weak mathematical skills. Through small-group instruction, students’ place value concepts could be consolidated and their accuracy in addition and subtraction could be improved.

Learning Maths with Fun (Chinese version only)

This set of teaching materials is suitable for primary one students with relatively weak mathematics skills. The content covers five topics of primary one mathematics (counting, place value recognition, tens place value recognition, units addition within 18, and two-digit addition) and hundreds place value recognition suitable for primary two students. The teaching materials also include the activity content of a game day and summer homework.

 

Fun with Maths : A Resource Pack for Supporting Primary School Students in Mathematics (Chinese version only)

“Fun with Maths” is designed for lower primary students with difficulties in learning mathematics, aiming at helping them master the basic Maths concepts and computation skills and consolidate their foundation in Maths.  The resource pack includes support strategies, lesson plans and worksheets. Teachers can use them in regular classroom or small group teaching, peer tutoring or parent workshops.  The resource pack, which contains a set of four booklets and an e-book, has been disseminated to all primary schools in Hong Kong.

Fun with Reading and Writing: A Resource Pack for Primary School Students (Chinese version only)

This resource package aims to facilitate teachers in selecting appropriate teaching materials for students after initial identification of students with specific learning difficulties.  It includes four units: "Basic Teaching Principles and Strategies", "Word recognition", "Reading Comprehension and Writing", and "English Reading and Writing".

How to Promote Reading and Writing Skills of Students – Parent Training Workshop : Handbook of facilitators  (Chinese version only)

This handbook enables school personnel to systematically guide parents to understand reading and writing difficulties of their children.  Parents can master effective skills and methods to help their children cope with difficulties in learning and work hand in hand with the school to promote their children's reading and writing.
