Background

Mary Rose School was founded in 1970 by the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Christ Church and is guided by the motto of “Faith, Hope, Love.” The school is dedicated to providing a comprehensive learning environment and quality holistic education for students with intellectual developmental disorder. The school not only values the uniqueness of each student, but also incorporates multiple intelligences and positive values into the curriculum to help them capitalize their strengths, build confidence, and gradually overcome developmental limitations. The curriculum is tailored to different growth stages of students, focusing on cultivating independent living skills. It covers areas such as social interaction, daily living, community participation, and pre-vocational preparation, fully supporting the growth needs of students.

To cater to the diversity of students and promote autonomous learning, the teaching team actively develops diverse teaching models and support strategies, guiding students to construct knowledge through practice while enhancing their communication, thinking, and problem-solving skills. The school’s professional team, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, autism counselors, non-Chinese-speaking student counselors, and native-speaking English teachers, provides appropriate support and collaborative teaching for students. The resource teaching team for students with autism offers various training sessions to help them overcome learning, communication, and social barriers, establishing good behaviors to integrate seamlessly into the community.

Through both formal and informal curricula, the school provides rich and diverse learning opportunities that expand students’ life experiences. Various interest classes, potential development activities, Saturday extracurricular activities, and competitions are regularly held, allowing students to enjoy the fun of activities, discover personal potential, and cultivate a spirit of perseverance. In addition, the school organizes visits, exchanges, and study activities in mainland China to broaden students’ horizons and promote holistic growth.

Highlights

The school is committed to creating a caring and inclusive learning environment, valuing the unique growth of each student. We collaborate with parents to incorporate the spirit of “Faith, Hope, Love” into daily life, guiding students to learn to respect others and care for society in a nurturing atmosphere, becoming responsible and good citizens.

In terms of technology and innovative education, the school actively integrates STEAM elements into interdisciplinary teaching, emphasizing hands-on practice, design thinking, and computational thinking. Through the school-based “STEAM Channel” and online platforms, collaborative learning between home and school is promoted, strengthening autonomous learning and parent-child interaction. In recent years, artificial intelligence and programming courses linked to social innovation applications have been introduced, enhancing students' competitiveness for the future.

To embody the teaching philosophy of “Dare to Try, Give Your Best,” the school provides diverse platforms for showcasing talents, including “Stars of Potential” performances, exhibitions, concerts, dance performances, and inter-school activities, aiming to help students build confidence and showcase their talents. Additionally, the school actively promotes sports, recommending students to participate in external professional training. Students have achieved outstanding results in major events such as the Special Olympics, Virtus Global Games, and National Games for Persons with Disabilities.
